The Orioles first spring training victory today came tainted when Matt Wieters left the game in the first inning with soreness in his surgically repaired right elbow. According to reports on Twitter, it will be day-to-day for the O’s starting catcher as they play it safe.
Posted by Roch Kubato on Twitter just a bit ago was a statement from Buck Showalter, addressing the injury.
“I think everybody gets alarmed because of, rightfully so, with the surgery there. Hopefully, it’ll manage and be OK.”
Obviously, the injury has concerns because it is the same elbow that knocked Wieters out of action for a good portion of the last two seasons. In fact, you could make valid assumptions that it was the injury that caused Matt to feel that signing his qualifying offer from the Orioles this past winter was in his best interest, rather than test free agency.
Here is to a quick recovery, Matt.
As always, Let’s Go O’s!
